About The Team

Hello and welcome to the Eastern Tigers Martial Arts. We’re a kickboxing and fitness club that has been running since October 2016.

Sensei John MacInnes, a 2nd Dan Black Belt, runs the two schools in both Buckie and Huntly. He has been teaching since March 2010 and has had the honour of not only competing for his club and country on the world stage, but he has also been the head coach at two world championships for team Scotland. Sensei John is constantly looking to gain skills and knowledge and as a result, and has a diploma in Swedish Massage as well as teaching credentials for Kettlercise, Boxercise and TRX.

Despite not being a full-time club, Eastern Tigers has had a number of tournament successes over the years. At present we only attend three or four tournaments annually but as the club grows, we hope to increase this. Some of our key successes include a 15-year-old junior World Champion, adult female World Champion and a 14-year-old silver medalist at the World Championships.

Every year we have 1 Black Belt test and 4 Gradings. The Black Belt test comes at the end of the belt system and is a challenging test assessing skill, stamina and technique which takes place in August. Belts are earned, not given. Gradings take place in March, June, September and December. Every class has its own belt system. Soon it will only be possible to sit a Black Belt test if you are age 12 or over due to the standards set and difficulty of the test.

In order to progress appropriately, students will need to take part in sparring sessions. This does not include Tiger Cubs and is optional for the Ninja class. We understand this can be extremely daunting but please be rest assured that all students are well looked after and will never be asked to do something they are not comfortable with.

We are open all year round except for a 2 week break in summer and a 2 week break in winter. We are hoping that in the future we will be in a place to offer classes all year round.

Newsletters are released periodically, although this may become more frequent and possibly become a digital/online blog type as we try and move away from using paper.

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the club. We look forward to working with you over the coming years and help you achieve your personal goals
